Tangier is the natural gateway to Morocco for travelers coming from Spain by ferry, and it has an international airport too. From there, the classic route crosses the whole country to Marrakech. The only question is how many days to give it.
The common route
All our tours from Tangier start with Chefchaouen, the blue city, then continue to Fes, cross the Middle Atlas to the Merzouga dunes and return west through the gorges and kasbahs to Marrakech.

What to see in Tangier
If you arrive a day early, visit the Kasbah with its views over the Strait of Gibraltar, the old medina and its cafes, and, just outside the city, Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean.
Practical tips
- Ferries from Tarifa usually arrive at the city port, those from Algeciras at Tangier Med, about an hour away.
- Pack for all climates: cool in the Rif, hot in the south.
- Spring and autumn are the best seasons for this north-to-south route.
Highlights you will see
- The blue lanes of Chefchaouen.
- The medieval medina of Fes, its tanneries and madrasas.
- The cedar forests of the Middle Atlas and the palm groves of the Ziz Valley.
- A camel ride and a night in the Erg Chebbi dunes.
- The kasbahs and gorges of the south and finally Marrakech.
Which one is for you?
If you are short on time, the 6-day tour covers the essentials. Couples and families who want a relaxed pace usually prefer 8 or 9 days. If it is your first and maybe only trip to Morocco, the 10-day tour gives you the most complete picture of the country.
